Basic housing

Houses

A basic family unit with a garden for growing vegetables and food.

If a house has a garden, its owners can use it to grow food for sale or for personal consumption. The products from citizens are purchased in granaries and trading posts. The "Purchase from citizens price" must be set above zero in Town Hall economy settings for granary or market stall workers to circulate garden foods.

A land tax calculated based on land area (excluding the house itself) is paid to the city treasury. You can change this tax in the Economy panel.

Village house residents heat their houses with firewood which they buy at nearby market stalls or directly at forestries.

The food they don't grow themselves they buy at local market stalls.

Sidebar[]

Clicking on a house, you can see the family name and underneath, all family members and their name, age and job, sorted by age.

Further, the families wealth is displayed, showing how much money is available to buy goods at the Market stall.

The Sidebar also displays information about stored and awaited goods. Awaited goods are requested by the family and will be hauled from their location to the house.

Placing houses next to each other usually snaps the fences together, making it possible to place houses closer to each other than the initial hitbox may assume. Holding the 'alt' key snapping can be disabled.

Each house upon construction will take on specific features in it's design, with variations in the roof, porch, doors and windows, and walls all coming together to form distinct and unique villages.

After a while, small bushes and a tree will be planted in the garden, which grow to their usual size. Some houses may add an upside down vase at the fence opening.

Max size of the garden is equal to 40x40 field, probably because of max fence length being 40.

Garden is divided to different plots by a line starting from one of the house corners. Angle at which it goes isn't random, but depends on position of one of the fences. If player hasn't rotated the house (comparing to 'starting' building positions) and fences are meeting at a straight angle agreeing with ground texture pattern, then all plots will be rectangular.

Garden products[]

Food type to produced in the garden is chosen randomly, player has no possibility to pick their favorite. At Alpha 4 Patch 7, crop rotation was introduced, although player can't control what villager will grow. These products are:

  • Honey – the only one not being a plant. There's a chance for a family to get beehives instead of vegetable or fruit. Previously Honey was only available in trade.
  • Raspberry – currently the only fruit. Apart from Market stalls, it can be sold either in Trading post (Derkachi) or Trading dock (Paniutyne)
  • Onions – can be sold to Paniutyne (for the same price as Raspberry) or in Market stalls.
  • Beetroot, Cabbage, Carrot – these can be sold in Market stalls or used as a feed in Pigsty (what slightly helps to meet its demand for food, which is quite high)
  • Cucumber – can be sold to Barvinkove.
  • Garlic
  • Peas
  • Pumpkin
  • Marrow
  • Horseradish
